Valentine's Day. The day of love, the day were everyone in a relationship brags about their significant other on how much they love him or her. The day that couples get all dressed up and go out to a nice fancy dinner. The day were the girls get brought chocolates and roses, the day were we love each other at our best. Its also the day were singles (manly girls) indulge in a pint of ice cream and watch all the hopeless romantic movies. The day were singles wish they had that special someone to celebrate Valentine's Day with. Valentine's Day can be a very hard holiday for a lot of people, so in this post today lets talk about it!
Some of you who read this and know me, know I struggle with wanting to be in a relationship and Valentine's Day in the past has been a hard holiday for me. Especially when everyone is posting about their significant other and how much they are thankful for them and love them and I would look at those post and be like when is that going to be me. When will the day come where a man looks at me and says how much he loves me and I would get really depressed and sad because I want that. Not only on Valentine's Day but other days were very hard for me, because a lot of people around me were in relationships or I'd see again on social media, post about relationships and wanted that. I realized in 2017 on Valentine's Day that this day is really just about love. Love is a universal thing that can change the world. I mean just think about it, it was Love that died on the cross, it was Love that loved us so much that he would give us a way to be reconciled to to him, to be redeemed, to be rescued. It was Love that gave us the ability to love one another. It was Love that changed the world. And so, two years ago on Valentine's Day I realized that Valentine's Day doesn't just have to be about how much you love your significant other but really about how much you love people.
So to all the single people out there don't freak out because you see everyone else posting on social media about their significant other and you wish you had one to post about to, which I totally get. I'm not saying its easy but really focus on love in general, in a universal way. Have this day be a day you LOVE in general. Love your parents, friends, siblings, pets everyone. I am single, and Valentine's Day is a day I choose to love everyone like I do everyday, there are sometimes I do struggle seeing all the post about being in a relationship but really that's what everyone does on all the other days too. haha For anyone who is having a hard time with seeing people in a relationship and wanting to be in one, I get it. I feel the pain, I understand the want and desire. All of that is real and that shouldn't be hidden or not talked about and I know Valentines Day can be a day that is hard for some people but if you switch your perspective and just think about it as a day to love people it really does help. Loving people is the best way to share the gospel and what true love looks like, sometimes its hard, sometimes loving someone is saying no, loving someone is truly putting the person first with their best interest in mind, loving people is the greatest joy we get to share. We don't always do it well, but if we really work to love people the way God says, we really can truly look at Valentine's Day as a day to love people...and....love people well!
Valentine's Day. They day to love people and love people well!
